The dragon guarded his cave. King Arthur watched. He knew there was a dragon egg inside and he wanted that egg!
The dragon was big and black. The dragon sported big spikes down his back and little spikes all over. He was a magical dragon. The dragon’s skin was smooth and looked as if it would feel smooth too, but the spikes looked sharp as knives. The dragon was super stinky just like garbage. King Arthur had to plug his nose the dragon stank so badly.
King Arthur could tell that the dragon had seen him because he was roaring at him just like a tiger. From within the cave there was the sound of baby dragons crying. King Arthur knew there was only one golden egg left to hatch. Because the dragon had seen him, King Arthur decided to sneak around to the back of the cave. He hoped the dragon would think he was gone. He used Excalibur to break the rocks at the back of the cave and make a hole for him to squeeze through.
In the middle of the cave was the large golden egg. All over around the egg, baby dragons wandered and cried. Suddenly all the dragon babies rushed to him and started biting him. He thought they must be trying to protect the egg. Then the father and mother dragon came in. The mother had her claws full of meat for the baby dragons. In fact she had a deer in her claws. King Arthur thought it looked very unappetizing – yuck!
King Arthur rushed the mama dragon. He dragged the deer out from her claws and threw it to a far corner. The baby dragons surged at the deer leaving the egg unprotected. He grabbed the golden egg and ran for the hole in the cave wall. But when King Arthur arrived at the hole, a huge red dragon blocked it from the outside. The dragon had white wings and white spikes.
“Oh no!” King Arthur cried. He was trapped.
All the dragons approached including the baby dragons. They captured King Arthur. King Arthur had no magic that he could use. At that moment, one of King Arthur’s soldiers arrived at the cave entrance.
“I will save you!” the man cried. It was Sir Gawain.
They fought the dragons together but the dragons won and caught them both! They struggled against the dragons. They fell to the ground and rolled. Suddenly the ground gave way and they fell into a secret passageway.
King Arthur laughed, “We are free!” He held up his golden egg but suddenly it poofed and vanished and then they poofed and turned into broccoli.
“Oh no,” King Arthur thought, “This is bad.”
There was a flash of lightning and Merlin arrived.
“Thank goodness”, said King Arthur, the Broccoli. “Save us.”
“I have no idea why broccoli is talking to me, but I’ll change you to a human and try to find out,” Merlin said. He waved his wand and King Arthur and Sir Gawain reappeared.
“Wow!” Merlin said. “I never would have expected this!”
They heard a loud clap! And a crack! From above there was a cry like a newborn baby. King Arthur, Sir Gawain and Merlin looked up and saw a baby dragon leaning over and staring at them.
“This quest is over,” King Arthur said. “I won’t be able to steal the egg. Let’s be off to Camelot.”
Merlin zapped all three of them home!
The End.
