The dragon guarded her cave. Francesca, the soldier, watched. Josh, another soldier, stood to her right. Francesca wondered what the dragon guarded.
The dragon was huge, almost as big as the mountain she guarded. She was a combination of lavender and aqua with large lavender wings. She had sharp spikes running down her back and very big teeth. She had extremely sharp claws and her eyes were slits that angled up in a fierce and evil way. The dragon’s skin looked as if it was completely covered in tiny but painful spikes.
Francesca thought that if she touched the dragon bare-handed, her hand might bleed instantly. The dragon stank of embers from a fire.
Francesca leaned over to Josh and whispered, “We must be careful. She stinks of embers. I think she could flame us.”
The dragon was growling. Francesca was very much afraid that the dragon was growling at them. In between growls, the dragon was chomping down a dead bear. Oooh, gross. It looked all bloody. Francesca thought it would be disgusting to eat raw bear. It would taste horrible.
Francesca went into super camouflage stealth mode and made herself look like a bush. She crawled past the dragon and into the cave. It was very dark. Immediately she felt lost. Francesca heard footsteps behind her. Terrified, she ran deeper into the cave. She hit a wall and saw a skeleton against it. She sucked in her breath. Hmmm… what was a skeleton doing here?
Josh ran up behind her and yelled, “Pull out your gun!”
Suddenly the cave shook with loud stomps. The dragon had arrived! Their eyes now adjusted to the dark, they saw a stream wending deep into the cave. There was also a boat!
“To the boat!” yelled Francesca.
They raced to it, jumped in and pushed off before the dragon could react. Francesca watched the dragon as they floated away. Strangely, the dragon didn’t seem to be concerned with them. She stayed in the main cavern and took on a guarding stance. Meanwhile, Francesca and Josh floated out of the cave through a small opening and landed on a sandy beach.
Francesca still wanted to know what the dragon guarded. Motioning to Josh to follow, Francesca snuck along the outside of the cave. There was another small entrance. They both crept inside. The first thing they saw was a metal chest sitting on another small beach. The chest was locked, but tiny squeaks were coming from it. Francesca wondered if there were mice in the chest.
Josh said, “I think the dragon has the key. I’m sure there are baby dragons in that chest.”
“No way!” said Francesca. “There are baby mice! I’m sure of it. We will go find the key and open the chest. Whoever is right gets five gems, and the loser cleans our base for two years!”
Francesca and Josh were debating a plan when suddenly there were giant banging noises on the other side of the room. Being very brave, they decided to see what the banging was. There was a door. Francesca opened it and they strode through. In unison, they gasped.
Francesca thought, “This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen!”
The “Cliffhanger” End.
