The dragon guarded her cave. Linsay, the knight, watched. She had never seen a dragon before. She wondered what the dragon guarded. She thought it must be really special, something everyone in the world would want to have.
The dragon was almost double her size. Linsay was 5’4”, and she thought the dragon was about ten feet tall. The dragon was dark red. She had iron armor covering her fish-like scales. Her wings were about as long as Linsay was tall. The dragon had bright blue, whirly eyes. Her tail was about four feet long, and it had spikes running down it. Linsay thought the dragon’s scales would feel like a crocodile’s skin, and her spikes would be as sharp as knives. The dragon’s claws were dark brown at the top and got lighter and lighter until they were white razer-sharp tips.
The dragon reeked of stinky socks. Yuck. She hated that smell. Eww.
Even before Linsay saw the dragon, she had heard her roar. The dragon had been roaring continuously . She still roared now that Lindsay was there. Linsay couldn’t tell whether the dragon was roaring at her or at something else. Other than the roaring, everything was silent. No birds chirped and no other animals made a peep.
Breaking the silence, Linsay slurped from her ICEE. It was the blue flavor–very sweet. Ouch! Brain freeze! Since she had ridden hard to get here, she had drunk the ICEE too fast. She knew better.
She wondered had far her horse had gone away given that he had run off as soon he saw the dragon. If Linsay was going to deal with this dragon, she needed her horse, Storm. She ran into the forest to find him. She searched and searched but couldn’t find him. Suddenly as she ran, she tripped on a vine and fell splat on her face. Darn she was never going to find Storm.
But she had to see what was in the cave. She picked up a branch and marched back toward the cave. When she was close but not where the dragon could see her, she threw the branch far past the dragon. The dragon stopped roaring and watched the branch sail by. The dragon flew off to get the branch. Linsay snuck into the cave.
There was a golden glow that made it possible for Linsay to see. The first thing she saw was a very black door. It had to be obsidian. She tried to open it, but it was locked! She searched the cave. In a far corner, there was TNT. Ah ha! She would blow-up the door. Quickly, she set it up and lit the fuse. The she ran and hid behind a boulder. But the TNT didn’t work. The door didn’t blow up. The dragon stomped into the cave and knocked down the door. Inside, was Linsay’s horse, Storm, and nothing else, except another door.
Why did the dragon knock down the door and show Linsay her horse? Was this a trap? How did Storm get there? Did he sneak in from a different direction? Linsay wanted to save him, but she couldn’t think how. So she ran, but the dragon leapt in front of her and blocked her way. Linsay turned back toward Storm. She ran into the room where her horse was.
She saw that the second door had a huge hole in it. Through the hole, she saw mounds and mounds of gold and diamonds! What a treasure. She ran behind another boulder and stomped as loud as she could. It echoed through the cave. The dragon seemed as confused as Linsay had hoped. It didn’t seem to know which way the sound came from. It flew to another corner of the cave . Lindsay ran to the second door and broke it down. She ran into the treasure chamber. So much treasure. She started to load her bag.
Suddenly, she heard the dragon roar. She looked up. There was another hole in the chamber wall, and all she could see was the dragon’s swirling, blue eye.
