The Alien and the Manatee

The alien stood by its spaceship. Freddy, the manatee, watched. The manatee was off the coast of Honolulu. He had just seen a very bright red light flash in the sky and now there was an alien ship crash landed in front of him.

A strange being crawled out out of the wreckage. The alien was a one-eyed creature. It was bluish green. It had four fingers on four hands and six toes on two feet. It was super furry. It was as if the creature’s hands were telekinetic blobs.

Freddy immediately flashed back to the last time, six years ago, when he’d seen an alien. Boy, was that a bad experience. The crash landing caused the volcano to erupt which caused him to have to migrate far, far away. Even worse, his family died in that eruption. It was the worst experience of his life.

The creature’s spaceship was huge, like a mansion. It was bright red. It had gadgets galore–definitely more impressive than the previous alien ship. This alien had to be very powerful and  wealthy.

Freddy thought he saw one of those very cool gadgets that allowed you to press a button and have food come out–like hamburgers and such. Freddy was pretty sure that the ship was made out of nano titanium scales that would feel smooth if you rubbed them in one direction and rough if you rubbed them in the other direction.

The alien smelled very weird to Freddy. He thought this might be what garbage smelled like in its natural habitat. There was another smell coming from the ship. He thought it might be the smell of hamburgers which was totally gross.

The alien’s ship was making a really high-pitched and sharp sound. It sounded like a dolphin cry. Had this alien kidnapped a dolphin?

The creature took a big bite out of one of those hamburgers that had cheese in them. Gross! Disgusting! It had to have tasted like garbage. You could not make Freddy eat something like that ever.

Just then the alien saw Freddy. It stood out of the wreckage, held out a hamburger, and said in English, which the manatee had studied in manatee school, ”Would you like to have a bite?”

Freddy’s heart sped up. He was scared, but he had been raised to be polite so he responded in manatee, because while he understood English he couldn’t speak it, “No thank you, I just ate a meal.”

The alien got a confused look on his face then his expression got bad. “Then I declare war!!”

Freddy thought that maybe the alien was offended and assumed Freddy didn’t like its food.

Freddy completely freaked out. Then he cried out a loud call. An army of little manatees arrived in a flash and floated behind Freddy. So many tons of manatees that they seemed to go on forever.

Strangely, the alien did not seem to be afraid. Instead, he looked smug. Suddenly, the sky was filled with alien spaceships, and one of them even looked like a giant taco. Oh no! Freddy imagined that that the creature had pressed a distress button when it’s ship crashed. In unison, all the aliens flashed a blue light and the sky became full of falling hamburgers. They pelted the little manatees.

As Freddy stared in horror with his mouth open, a hamburger fell inside. He had to eat it! It was as gross as he imagined. Yuck! Disgusting! Double yuck!

Then something strange happened. He began to glow neon green and then rise into the sky. His stomach growled, and it was as if the whole ocean was snoring. He looked around. Thousands of little manatees were also rising into the sky. Did they also have superpowers now?

All of a sudden, the creature in front of Freddy began to shrink. As he was shrinking, he shrieked. There was a chorus of shrieking coming from all the ships. They must all be shrinking. Freddy moved forward and realized he could fly. He and the little manatees flew at the aliens and the alien ships.

Freddy coughed and a piece of his blubber shot randomly into the water. He coughed again and a piece of blubber hit the alien in the nose. Wow! He had superpower coughing!

“Cough, everybody!” he yelled at the little manatees.

They obeyed, and all the blubber started to clog the alien ships, and they started to fall. Despite his anger over the loss of his family, he couldn’t cause all the aliens to die.

“Save them!” he yelled.

All the manatees caught the ships and brought them safely to the ground.

“We shall have peace from now on.” Freddy said to the alien. “But we are better than you! Ha!”

The End.
