Kevin and the Dragon

The dragon guarded her cave.  Kevin, the 12 year-old boy, watched.  Kevin knew that she guarded her babies.

The dragon was huge–as big as a wall, and she was a very dark blue.  Even her giant wings were dark blue.  She had no horns, but she had very big and sharp teeth.  Each tooth was at least as big as a meter.

Kevin had heard that this particular dragon breathed orange flames, but for now she was fireless.  Her skin was smooth and slimy, like a lizard’s.  She was spikeless.  The dragon stank like a skunk.  Kevin pinched his nose.  She was disgusting.

The dragon was roaring really loud, so loud that Kevin had to cover his ears because they hurt.  He did not think she was roaring at him.  As far as he could tell she did not know he was there.  From within the cave came a thunderous roar of snoring.  Kevin knew that the dragon had 100 babies.  They were really loud sleepers!

Kevin bit into another potato chip.  It made a loud crunch.  He loved potato chips—they were salty, potato goodness.

Suddenly, the dragon saw him.  She stopped roaring and began to drool instead, big fat globs of drool.  Kevin was not happy to see how her eyes sparkled with both joy and hunger as she looked at him.  He had a feeling she wanted to make him her lunch.  Kevin had to think fast.

He pulled out his magic wand and he waved it and said, “Let there be ice cream sandwiches for the dragon.”

A huge pile of ice cream sandwiches fell in a mountain in front of the dragon.  She was completely distracted and forgot about Kevin.  Instead, she began to scarf the ice cream.

Kevin took the opportunity to sneak into the cave.  He was determined to steal one baby dragon and make it his pet.  When he walked into the cave he found it was very bright and warm with torches everywhere.  He thought the dragon was trying to keep the babies cozy.

All of a sudden, Kevin heard loud stomping.  He looked over his shoulder and saw the dragon enter the cave.  Oh no!  He thought.  But then with a poof, a unicorn popped out of nowhere.  He jumped onto her back and attempted to escape from the cave. He remembered at the last minute that he wanted a baby dragon as a pet.

“Wait!” he cried to the unicorn.

He got her to turn around and go back to the babies.  He leaned over and swooped one up into his arms.  She awoke and began to roar!  Quick as a wink, the unicorn twisted her head and grabbed the baby with her horn, flinging her back to the mama dragon.  Kevin realized the unicorn was the dragon’s friend.

With a loud poof, the unicorn disappeared and Kevin fell to the ground, landing on his rear-end.  He was determined to get a baby.

He waved his wand and yelled, “Rocks!”

They fell between him and the dragon, giving him yet another opportunity to grab a baby.  He lunged for the closest baby dragon.

Suddenly, with a loud poof, Little Red Riding Hood appeared.  “My, what big teeth you have,” she said to the dragon.

Kevin felt this was all too much.  The dragon was scary, but this Red Riding Hood was even more frightening.  He turned and ran all the way home and never came back.

The End.
