The Boy and the Dragon

The dragon guarded his cave. Hunt, the eight-year-old boy, watched. What was the dragon guarding?

The dragon was as big as a castle. He was a dark forest green. He had thick, triangular spikes that covered his back and tail. His eyes looked like blood, but his scales looked like cushions, all fluffy.

The dragon smelled like old, decaying roses, something that used to be sweet and alive, but now was rotten and stinky. Hunt didn’t like it.

The dragon roared, and Hunt thought it sounded like a cross between a giant and a wolf. From within the cave, horrible screaming and crying tore through the air.

Suddenly, a lion sauntered into the area, chewing on chicken drumsticks. Wow! A lion. Hunt felt a burst of happiness. He’d never seen a lion this close before. He loved lions — they were beautiful, majestic, and powerful. But he knew they could rip him to shreds. A shiver ran down his spine, and his hair stood on end. What if the lion decided to eat him? Still, he also felt just a little hungry watching the lion eat that teriyaki drumstick. So salty and yummy. It was one of his favorite things to eat.

The dragon saw the lion. He roared so loud that he shook the ground. He stomped after the lion.

Hunt saw his chance. He walked straight into the cave. It was dark with eerie red lights on the ceiling and the floor. It took a long moment before his eyes adjusted. When they did, he saw something extraordinary. A huge, green shiny crystal, the size of an ice chest sat in the middle of the cave. It was in a pit with lava and skeletons surrounding it.

Human skeletons! Uh-oh!

He felt a desperate desire to go to the crystal. To touch the crystal. It was all he could think about. He jerked forward.

A human and someone who looked a lot like Satan the devil walked in.

The human yelled, “Don’t touch it!”

The demon yelled, “It’s okay! You can touch the crystal. No problem.”

Hunt wanted so badly to touch the crystal. He decided to believe the demon. He ran to the crystal and touched it.

He cried out, “Oh! The pain!”

He fell to the ground, and knew nothing more. To be continued…

The “Cliffhanger” End.
