The dragon guarded his cave. Ruz the robot watched. She wondered what the dragon guarded.
The dragon was large. Ruz was four feet tall and this dragon was 24 feet tall. Ruz was very good with sizes. The dragon’s body was neon green – a light green to be exact – except for his back, which was black and had spikes running down it.
Ruz did not think the scales were sharp. She thought they looked scaly. She imagined that if she touched the spikes they could be rough. The dragon breathed fire. However, Ruz thought the fire might be fake. Though it looked hot, she thought it would feel like nothing.
Ruz used her sniffing sensors to smell the dragon. He smelled bitter, like poison. Ruz concluded that the dragon was poisonous. Ruz had been programmed to be scared of danger. Poison equalled danger. She felt fear. Besides, it was clear that the dragon had seen Ruz and was breathing fire at her. The dragon sounded as if he was breathing hard as he breathed flame.
Suddenly, the dragon stopped breathing fire. Instead he picked up a claw full of diamonds and crunched them and then gulped them down. Ruz thought that the diamonds would taste like strawberries. Though Ruz couldn’t taste, she didn’t think she would like the taste of strawberries. Strawberries were sour.
Ruz decided it was time to execute her plan to distract the dragon long enough to sneak into the cave and see what he guarded. She pulled out a screwdriver from her bag of robot gadgets and flung it in a high arc past the dragon and far from the cave. For a second, she thought the dragon would leave the cave. He looked toward the screwdriver. But he refused to go.
Aha! thought Ruz. The dragon was an excellent guard. He was not willing to leave his post. Hmm. Ruz decided to confront the dragon.
She galloped to the dragon. “Hello,” she said. “What are you guarding?”
The dragon ROARED! He said, “I am guarding ten million pounds of diamonds and a sandwich!”
Ruz said, “Interesting, can I have them?”
The dragon ROARED! “No, you cannot have the diamonds, but you can have the sandwich.”
Ruz said, “Thank you. I have never eaten a sandwich before.” She took the dragon’s sandwich and shoved it at her face. She smeared it all over. Eating was weird. The sandwich tasted like EVIL. She didn’t want the sandwich. She wanted the diamonds. She would steal them.
She lasered the dragon with her eyes and pushed him fifty miles away! Then she galloped into the cave.
When Ruz arrived in the cave she saw the pile of ten million pounds of diamonds. She pressed a button on her arm and teleported all the diamonds into her backpack. It was a special robot backpack – bigger on the inside than on the outside. All the diamonds fit!
Ruz was very pleased with herself. She did the dab.
As she left the cave, the dragon returned. ROARRRRRRRR! The dragon chased Ruz. Ruz galloped away. The dragon would not give up. He chased Ruz all around the world, and though robots don’t generally get tired, Ruz was feeling a little tired of being chased. What was she going to do? How could she get rid of the dragon?
The “Cliffhanger” End.
