Isabella the Knight and the Dragon

The dragon guarded his cave. Isabella, the girl knight, watched. She didn’t know this dragon. But she did know that he guarded the most powerful diamond in the world. She was determined to steal it!

“Hello,” said the dragon. “I’m FIRE. Why are you here, bruh?”

“Hola,” said Isabella. “Just traveling through.”

The dragon was tiny – no bigger than her upper arm. He was shiny black. His wings were four times bigger than his body. Spikes ran down his back to his tail. She thought that his scales would be rough to the touch but that they might also give – like memory foam.

The dragon smelled really good, like donuts straight out of the oven. So sweet, so – ugh, wait – now it smelled like bananas – gross – yuck. Why, oh why, did he have to smell like both!

All of a sudden, the dragon farted. Whoa! That was a loud fart! Great! Now she had to smell green eggs and ham and bananas. Nasty!

Fire turned and bit into the tree next to him. He started to chew.

Hmm, thought Isabella. That must be very hard. It would hurt my jaw. And I can’t imagine that it would taste like anything I like to eat.

“So,” she said to Fire. “What’s it like to live in a cave? Do you ever leave it? Do you have any special items that you keep there to make it a home?”

“I’m afraid I can’t talk about what I have in the cave. It’s confidential.”

Well, thought Isabella. It’s time for action.

She burst into a sprint and ran past the dragon into the cave. He was small. She could grab the diamond and run off before he could blink. But, she hadn’t accounted for the horrible stench of bananas and dragon fart. Just as she reached the cave, it overwhelmed her. She collapsed to the ground, still slightly awake but her whole body twitching. Isabella fought back to her feet, drawing on her inner strength. No dragon odor could beat her.

She looked into the cave. There was the diamond. Not huge, but beautiful. A stunning blue. And so powerful, it pulsed. She ran over, grabbed it, and hid it in her pouch.

“I’m off!” She cried.

She ran back to the cave entrance, but the stinky dragon stood in her path. She tried to run him down, but she bounced off of him. He was stronger than he looked.

“Stop right there,” Fire said. “Let me see in your pockets.”

Suddenly, a much larger dragon lumbered into the main portion of the cave. “Fire! What are you doing? It’s past your bedtime. Come with me right now!”

“But –”

“No buts! It’s time for bed.” She dragged him off.

Isabella tiptoed out of the cave, blue diamond still in her pouch. “Whoa! That was lucky! And now I’m the most powerful knight IN THE WORLD!”

The End.
