The Secret Hunter and the Dragon

The dragon guarded her cave. The secret hunter named Jeff watched. What was this dragon guarding? He’d heard there was a dragon, but that was all he knew. So he was determined to find out what she guarded.

The dragon was as tall as a single story building and nearly as wide. She was as black as midnight with the brightest red eyes ever and blood dripping from her mouth and staining her snout. Her wings were large and covered with silver scales like stars on the underside. She had two twisted horns on the top of her head. Her skin looked smooth and scaly and rather wet.

She smelled like dark chocolate that had melted in the sun. Ewww! Gross! Yuck! Barf! Jeff hated that smell. He was allergic to chocolate and the smell made him want to puke.

The dragon kept grunting over and over. Jeff didn’t think she was grunting at him. She seemed to be grunting at whatever was in the cave. He listened carefully and heard strange beeping, little clicks, and other digital sounds coming from the cave. That was strange! It almost seemed as if there might be computers or even video games in there.

The dragon stopped grunting and began to eat a strawberry ice cream sundae. OMG! What could be worse?! Jeff was also allergic to strawberries! They tasted like poison.

Jeff decided to sneak in while she was distracted by her ice cream sundae. He dropped to his belly and crawled to the cave. Just as he reached the cave opening the dragon roared. She had seen him! UH OH!

She lifted her talon and went to grab him. He rolled away. Then he jumped up and evaded her claw. Leaping back and forth he managed to stay free of her clutches, but he had to do something.

He dived into the cave and rolled as far from the dragon as possible. Then he ran deeper into the cavern and hid. When he turned around to see what was in the cave, all he saw was the most unusual box. It appeared to be breathing. It was alive! And it was beeping and flashing lights and making strange digital noises.

Jeff rubbed his eyes. Was he really seeing this? “Hello?” he said to the box.

The box beeped more excitedly and much louder, but it didn’t speak English. At least, not that Jeff could tell. It definitely didn’t respond.

The dragon lumbered in. “Why are you talking to my video games?”

“This box is a bunch of video games?” Jeff asked.

“Didn’t I just say that?” the dragon said. She snatched him up and shoved him head first into her ice cream sundae.

Uh-Oh. Jeff couldn’t stop himself. He puked. Then he scrambled to get away from the horrible strawberries and chocolate. He pulled himself out of the huge cup, but there was a secret chest above him that opened and dumped a potion all over him.

Poof! He shrunk down to the size of an ant. He scrambled out of the sundae cup and out of the cave. Fortunately, when he was a safe distance from the cave, he puffed into his normal size.

He ran as fast as he could far away and never returned.

The End.
