The Dragon and the Wizard

The dragon guarded her cave. Jeff, the wizard watched. He’d seen the dragon before–but only once before.  In fact, he’d followed the dragon to this cave, deep in the jungle. He’d heard of the wondrous treasure that this dragon guarded. He wanted to steal it.

But the dragon was huge–at least 10,000 times bigger than him. Whoa! She was light blue, and she had aqua blue wings. Her scales were also light blue, and they looked smooth to the touch, though Jeff knew that they felt very spiky. He had gotten close enough to her the last time he’d seen her to touch her.

She smelled fabulous–just like candy. She made him want to eat her, but he knew it wouldn’t feel good because she was too spiky–and spikes would stick in his mouth.

For such a huge dragon, she was quite quiet. When she shifted, it caused the ground to shift, but it was a very soft sound for such a large dragon.

The dragon chewed on raw lion meat–Eww! Gross. Jeff thought raw lion would be disgusting, like eating garbage.

Jeff had a plan. The dragon was now blowing a low amount of fire. So Jeff began to cook stew. Once it was done, he would throw it at the dragon. While she was distracted he would run into the cave and steal her treasure.

He put his plan into action. He made a fabulous stew. Then he threw it at the dragon. But she caught it and threw it right back!

Jeff fainted. Slowly he regained consciousness. Uh-oh. He was in a cage! Oh no! What had happened? How long had he been unconscious?

Where am I? he thought.

Then he saw it–a mound of beautiful treasure–rubies, diamonds, gold! His cage was right in front of the treasure. And the dragon was nowhere in sight!

Jeff reached for his wand. He would steal that treasure and skedaddle!

But his wand was missing! The dragon must have taken it! Maybe even eaten it! What was a wizard to do?

Suddenly the earth shook! Was that the dragon coming back? The earth continued to shake and roll. Jeff’s cage tipped over and fell–right into a crack! Ahhhhhhhhh!
