The Dragon and the Mystic Lizard

The dragon guarded her cave. Dark Fire, the mystic lizard watched. He knew that the dragon guarded a million dollars worth of gold! Dark
Fire had a really fun potion he wanted to make, but the special ingredient was very expensive. If he stole the gold, he could buy the special
ingredient and then he could make his candy-creating potion. He would give it to the dragon as a gift – a great gift in honor of all the gold he had
taken.

The dragon was huge, at least four times as big as he was. And he was a very big mystic lizard. He was half the size of one of those human
creatures. Also, the dragon was dark purple unlike his beautiful sky blue color. The dragon had one horn instead of two like Dark Fire and she had
enormous wings that were the same dark purple on the outside, but were a light violet inside. Dark Fire thought the dragon might be covered in fine
spikes – they looked sharp. Fortunately his spiky claws were also sharp and his skin was tough. He was not worried about touching the dragon.

Dark Fire sniffed the air. The dragon smelled wondrous like the most beautiful flower garden in the world, so sweet. It was the best odor ever!

The dragon roared – really, really loud. He’d heard a dragon roar before, but that dragon was nothing like this one–a lot less loud. He didn’t think the
dragon was roaring at him. He thought she was upset because far in the distance two other dragons were in a huge battle. Suddenly yet
another dragon swooped down to sit next to the dragon who guarded her cave. She offered the first dragon peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Yum, thought Dark Fire. Peanut butter and jelly tasted as sweet as flowers. He wished he could have a bite, but he was on a mission to steal that
gold.

He had a plan. He was a mystic lizard, which meant he could turn into mist. So he did. He floated past the two dragons eating their peanut
butter and jelly sandwiches. It was easy-peasy. He stayed misty in the cave.

The first thing he saw was the huge mountain of gold. But suddenly
he heard the tromp of dragon feet, and the two dragons looked into the cave. They seemed to be searching for something. Had they heard him? Seen
him? He had better move quickly.

With his mist powers he lifted the gold and started floating past the dragons. The dragons roared and raced to block him. Uh oh, he went up to the top of the cave. They flew after him. Hmmm. This was tricky. No matter where he went the dragons were there. What was he going to do?

He wasn’t sure he could escape. The dragons were relentless no matter how much he misted away.

Dun Dun Dun …

The “Cliffhanger” End.
