The dragon guarded his cave. A speedster watched. His name was Flash. Flash wondered what the dragon guarded. Flash had never seen this dragon before.
The dragon was rather large–as big as a grizzly bear. And he was fiery red–all the way to the sharp tips of his wings. His tail looked like a very bumpy snake. Flash thought the dragon would be super scaly to the touch. The dragon smelled delicious, like fresh strawberries, yum! Flash took a long sniff. The dragon was super noisy. He squeaked. He made funny noises. And occasionally, he roared. But Flash did not think the dragon was roaring at him. He was sure the dragon hadn’t seen him. He thought that maybe the dragon was calling for other dragons.
All of a sudden a tiny mouse ran by, also squeaking. The dragon pounced with his claw and swooped it into his mouth. Chomp! Ugh, thought Flash. That is gross. Flash thought that a mouse would taste like a skunk. Yuck!
Flash was ready to stop watching the dragon chewing on a mouse and to find out what was in the cave. Whoosh! He ran so fast he couldn’t be seen, right into the cave. The cave glowed… with dragon poop! Whoa. Flash had never imagined that dragon poop could glow so bright. It was everywhere and the cave was as bright as if the sun shone inside. In the back of the cave were many smaller entrances leading to additional cave chambers. Hmm. Where should he check next? Suddenly, with a roar, a second dragon careened out from the middle, smaller opening. Ack! Flash had to skedaddle. He raced for an opening to the right. The little chamber was empty. Where was the thing the dragon guarded?
Flash made a new plan. He used his super speed to dig a hole through to the next chamber. Dirt flew everywhere. Once he whooshed into the next room, his question was finally answered. For there in the chamber was a beautiful goblet. It looked like a sacred goblet. Priceless! He would make it his.
He reached for the goblet. When his fingers touched it, a net dropped and pinned him to the ground. No amount of speedster running could free him. Instead, the net just tightened. And then he heard the stomp of dragon feet and their terrible roar. They were coming.
Dun… Dun… Dun…
