The Martian and the Oogabalian

After the alien from Oogabali landed on Earth, he stood by his spaceship.

Rocky, the Martian, watched. Rocky was very much afraid that this new alien wanted to conquer Earth, and he didn’t like that one bit. He and the other Martians were in an alliance with Earth. They were determined to protect this planet no matter what.

The Oogabali spaceship looked a lot different from a Martian spaceship. First it was smaller. It also was a different shape. It was a round sphere. Martians built spaceships that were like your average Earth plane, only bigger.

The Oogabalian was a big yellow blob. He didn’t have limbs, but Rocky knew that he could reshape himself. He’d seen Oogabalians before. They were so different from your average Martian, who typically was all orange and really big, with three legs, eight arms, and six eyes. Oogabalians only had four eyes.

Rocky had never touched an Oogabalian, but despite being blobs, they always looked quite hard to him. Their spaceships were intriguing. As soon as one landed, it became one with the terrain. Rocky had seen one on Mars and it had become very hot and red, like Mars. Here on Earth, since the Oogabalian had landed near a forest, the ship had become like a forest, so that it looked as if it was made of trees. Rocky thought the ship used camouflage technology to change its appearance.

Rocky loved how the Oogabalian smelled—just like a batch of freshly baked Earth-made chocolate chip cookies. They were his favorite treat from his Earth friends. Not only did the Oogabalian smell like cookies, but the ship did too! Rocky had heard that whatever Oogabalians make, the scent often remained stuck to them. Clearly, this Oogabalian made lots of cookies.

The ship currently beeped—a regular sound that happened every three seconds.

Meanwhile, the Oogabalian yelled at the top of his lungs. “I claim this planet for the Oogabalians!”

Rocky could tell that the Oogabalian hadn’t seen him yet.

Just then, a rabbit hopped by. He had a piece of lettuce in his mouth, and he was chewing rapidly. To Rocky, lettuce was divine. It tasted like ice cream and candy.

Suddenly, the rabbit stopped chewing and jumped into Rocky’s spaceship. Rocky leaped forward to grab the rabbit, but before he could nab him, the rabbit hopped onto a button and the entire spaceship lifted off and flew away.

Rocky had to act fast. He grabbed his high-tech rope and shot it into the air. It surrounded the spaceship and started dragging it back to the ground.

Meanwhile, the Oogabalian stopped yelling about conquering Earth. Instead, he rolled around and asked, “Is that a Martian spaceship? Where did it come from?”

Rocky thought his rope was working, but then he felt a huge jerk and suddenly he flew! Yikes! Hand over hand, he ascended the rope until he made it to the ship. He clambered inside. The rabbit stared at him. Rocky took over the controls and sent the ship back to Earth. He quickly landed it a fair distance from the Oogabalian ship.

When Rocky exited his ship, he saw that the Oogabalian was heading straight for him. The sludge part of the creature’s body rolled, but his eyes stayed even with Rocky’s. He stared with all four eyes.

“Why are you here, Martian?” the Oogabalian asked.

“I have an alliance with Earth,” said Rocky. “They will pay me to stop you with an abundance of resources we can’t get on Mars!”

The Oogabalian said, “You can’t trust Earthlings. Don’t agree to this deal. Don’t accept anything from them. We once had an alliance too, but then one of the four-legged humans stole one of our ships. We knew we couldn’t trust them. See, even now, one of those Earthlings tried to steal your ship!”

“That’s not what happened,” Rocky said. “That wasn’t a human. It was just an animal who by accident took my ship.”

Suddenly, the rabbit hopped over. “Oh yeah?” it said. “I didn’t take that ship by accident. I jumped in on purpose!”

While both aliens stared with their collective twelve eyes, the rabbit powered up its most advanced technology. This time, it stole both ships away.

Rocky and the Oogabalian got really mad. They loomed over the rabbit who acted totally unconcerned.

“That was not cool,” Rocky said. “You give us back our ships, or else—”

“Or else what?” asked the rabbit. “Have you ever thought that you’re the ones who are in danger?”

Yikes, thought Rocky. He had not thought of that, but now that was all he could think about!
