Slupor the Dragon vs. Carol the Dragon

The dragon guarded her cave. Slupor, the spy dragon, watched. This was Carol, his mortal enemy. He knew that Carol guarded her eggs, and he was determined to steal them. Because, in fact, those were not Carol’s eggs! They were Slupor’s! Those were his wife’s eggs. Slupor would do anything to get them back.

Carol was bright red, whereas Slupor was a dark green. They were the exact same size. Big spikes ran down Carol’s back, unlike Slupor, who was spike less.  Carol’s scales were soft, but Slupor’s were hard. He did not know if his scales were hard enough to deflect the spikes.

Carol smelled gross! Like stinky strawberries and perfume! She reeked! Way too strong. He and his wife didn’t smell like anything, just themselves. And that was the way a dragon should be.

Slupor couldn’t stop himself from growling, deep in his throat. Carol was completely silent. She had never been able to make sounds, not even with her body. He didn’t think Carol had yet seen him or heard him.

He turned to his son, Donald. He brought Donald with him to teach him how to hunt. Donald was eating a tuna fish sandwich-both healthy and spicy. Yum! Looking at Donald, Slupor was more determined than ever to save the eggs, so Donald could have younger siblings.

Slupor said, “Donald, please distract that dragon. Let her see you doing the refrigerator dance. Then I will sneak into the cave and rescue the eggs.”

Donald danced, but Carol did not get distracted. In fact, she saw Slupor and she raced toward him. So Donald snuck into the cave.

When Carol was close, Slupor kicked her! But Carol swung back to the cave as if she had just realized that Donald could have gone inside. She rushed back, and Slupor followed. It was dark in the cave, but the eggs cast a glow.

Suddenly, Carol swung around sensing Slupor’s presence. Her expression did something very strange. First, her eyes widened, and turned red. Then, red hearts popped into her eyes.

“Uh oh!” thought Slupor. He had a terrible feeling that she might have fallen in love with him. “Yuck!”

She threw herself at him and dragged him into a waltz.

“What is going on?” Slupor looked around and saw his lovely wife. She looked angry. Uh oh! thought Slupor. “Tuna, it’s not what you think.” His wife’s name was “Tuna.”

Tuna growled and grabbed Carol with her talons. “You are not allowed to dance with my husband!” She started dancing the waltz with Carol instead.

Slupor felt very strange–woozy and shaky. Strangely, he felt deeply in love with Carol. It was so strange and unexpected, but it was real and true.

He flung Tuna away, grabbed Carol, and kissed her.

Donald pushed them apart. He yelled, “Stop!” so loudly that the cave shook. Suddenly, Slupor was back to normal.

What happened?! Yuck! he thought. Had he just kissed Carol? She must have put him under a spell. She must have zapped him with her laser eyes.

Just then, there was a loud crack and more cracks. The eggs were hatching!

Little dragons crawled out, shooting lasers. They were laser babies! They shot lasers, but only at Carol. Somehow they knew who the bad guy was. The laser babies shot so many lasers that they drove Carol out of the cave! Slupor was ecstatic! His babies were safe.

Then, Carol charged back inside. But she was new and improved. Her scales were hard. She had grown two enormous horns. And now, she was a lot bigger than Slupor. Uh oh! She charged at the babies. Slupor defended them. He pushed her, and she knocked her head on the cave ceiling.

Slupor grabbed babies and ran for the cave entrance. His wife and Donald followed, but so did Carol. They rushed outside and Carol couldn’t catch them. Instead, she blocked the cave entrance.

They were saved!

“Where’s the third baby?” cried Tuna.

Uh oh! Slupor searched everywhere, but that one baby wasn’t outside. That meant it was still in the cave, and Carol was blocking any hope of retrieving it.

What were they going to do? How would they save their baby? This was terrible!

The “Cliffhanger” End.
