The dragon guarded his cave. The tiger watched. His name was Fifel. He knew from his tiger friends that the dragon guarded treasure. He wanted that treasure badly!
The dragon was huge – at least three times as big as Fifel. He was a bright pink with a neon green zigzag pattern all over. That was very different from Fifel’s beautiful blue coat. The dragon had spikes all over his back. Those spikes looked very, very sharp. The dragon had rough scales all over his body. He had bright pink wings with purple horns on the tips. Each wing had cow spots all over that were red. The wings were also covered with sharp spikes.
The dragon smelled just like yummy, delicious marshmallows – good enough to eat! But the dragon was a little too big to try to eat him. The dragon was growling. His growl was much lower than Fifel’s. It reminded Fifel of a wolf. Also Fifel heard a crackling and a burning noise that made him imagine that a fire was starting in the cave. The idea of a fire worried Fifel. What if it went out of control and ruined his habitat. He also worried about all of that treasure that might be destroyed. Weirdly, the fire noises also made the tiger imagine that not only did the dragon smell like marshmallows, but if he licked the dragon, he would taste roasted marshmallows. So sweet and fantastic. He started to lick the air in front of him.
Fifel called for a friend. “Distract the dragon,” he ordered.
His friend jumped in front of the dragon who growled even louder and lunged toward him. Fifel raced behind the dragon and into the cave.
The cave glowed, It was glowing because of the mountain of treasure. There was no fire but there was a hissing, spitting, crackling baby dragon! The baby dragon wanted to play! But Fifel refused. With his sharp claws, he grabbed the biggest jewel off the pile of treasure and threw it on his back. He raced back the way he came and ran straight into the dragon.
Boy was that dragon surprised. So surprised that he let out an enormous growl. The baby dragon followed Fifel out of the cave!
Fifel and his tiger friend ran away toward the jungle. The dragon and his baby dragon pursued. Fifel and his friend were determined to meet up with the rest of the tigers. Just as the two reached the jungle, the dragon swooped down and caught them in his sharp talons.
“For stealing my jewel, you must serve my baby dragon for an entire year and do whatever she wants. If she wants to play, you play.” He flew them back to the cave.
The baby dragon said, “Play with me. Play tag!” The tigers played tag.
Fifel tried to sneak out of the cave during their game. But he had a pang in his heart. How could he leave that sweet baby? How could he leave his tiger friend? He went back. They played for a few weeks.
Then the baby said, “Come run away with me! It’ll be fun. You must do this.” They all ran away.

Later, the dragon read in the newspaper about a baby dragon living with tigers. He slapped himself in the forehead. How could I have been so stupid?
Just when he had no hope, the baby dragon arrived home. “Hi Papa!”
“My daughter! You have earned your independence! Hurrah!”
The End.
