Buckbeak, the Griffin, and the Dragon

The dragon guarded her cave. The griffin watched. His name was Buckbeak. He knew that this dragon guarded a very special, and very large blueberry. If one ate it he could live forever. Buckbeak really wanted that blueberry.

The dragon was huge – over 500 feet long. She was dark red with fifty foot spikes running down her back. He had heard that when she got mad she breathed fire. Clearly she wasn’t mad right now.Buckbeak was still hidden from her view, behind a rock.

The dragon had two one-hundred-foot-long horns on the top of her head. He thought her scales would feel bumpy, but still smooth and that they would be cold to the touch. He knew from the gossip-mill that she had two babies. Were they hiding inside the cave? Buckbeak knew he’d better stay far away from the dragon’s spikes because they looked as sharp as knives.

Buckbeak lifted his head and sniffed. Wow, she smelled great! She smelled just like bacon. He was sooo attracted to that odor. The dragon let out another loud fart, and the bacon smell grew even stronger. She was a very farty dragon.

From within the cave came a very squeaky voice saying over and over again, “Please, eat me.” That had to be the blueberry. That was unexpected. Buckbeak hadn’t heard that the everlasting life blueberry could speak. The dragon was munching on a big pig. Yumm – salty, fatty pig. One of Buckbeak’s favorites. He suspected that was the reason for the bacon toots.

Buckbeak put his plan in motion. He grabbed a rock and threw it at the dragon.

She farted and said, “Who did that?” She stomped away from the cave to investigate.

When she passed the boulder that Buckbeak hid behind, he flew into the cave.  He immediately could see in the dark, but all he saw was a bunch of rocks. Where was the magic blueberry? Weirdly, the blueberry’s squeaky cry was quieter now that he was in the cave. Had the blueberry moved further into the cave? He decided to hunt throughout the cave until he found it.

When he arrived at a far chamber, the squeaky speaking stopped. In addition, he found the two baby dragons. For babies, they were pretty huge – fifty feet long. He suddenly smelled the very strong scent of a lollipop. It was almost over powering. Was it possible that he was very close to the blueberry? Could the blueberry be invisible?

The baby dragons were standing on their hind legs with their claws out, and they were screeching. Maybe they were protecting the blueberry.

All of a sudden,  Buckbeak heard a giant toot and the thunderous noise of the mama dragon entering the cave. Fortunately that caused the baby dragons to run out of the chamber to find their mom. Buckbeak ran behind a large boulder. He was scared, a feeling he had never felt before.

Just when Buckbeak felt doomed, a griffin flew down from the ceiling of the cave. There must be a hole. It was Robert, his best friend. Yay! Behind him was an entire griffin army – there had to be at least a million griffins flying into the cave. Now they meant business. It was time to take on the dragon and find that blueberry.

The “Cliffhanger” End.
