Lava Girl and the Dragon

The dragon guarded his cave. Lava Girl watched. She knew that the dragon guarded an egg that was about to hatch and that he was the uncle. She wondered whether the baby dragon would be a boy or a girl. The dragon in front of the cave was huge and a very dark red. He had big spikes all over, and his eyes matched the red of his body. Lava Girl remembered how sharp his spikes were and how rough his skin was. His name was Bob.

Bob, the dragon, stunk. He smelled like gross fire, all earthy and smokey. Why couldn’t he wear perfume like she did? Thank goodness he also smelled slightly of pineapple, one of her favorite smells to wear. Lava Girl thought it was very strange that Bob was currently eating sunblock out of a big tube. Why would he do that? Did it taste like root beer? She hoped it did, but she still thought it was gross.

Bob was also slapping himself with his great stomps. Lava Girl was confused about why he would do that. It was making a very sharp racket. But somehow he seemed to be enjoying himself.

Lava Girl was getting hungry. Watching Bob eat his sunblock was making her tummy rumble. All she could think about was stealing the dragon’s egg and eating it! She made her move. She whipped off her titanium braces and then snapped them at Uncle Bob. They zapped him.

The dragon jumped and yelled, “Ouch.” He then landed with the delicate grace of a ballerina, light as a feather. That was the moment when Bob saw Lava Girl. He growled and flame shot from him, engulfing Lava Girl with a loud whoosh.

All that fire caused Lava Girl to grow and grow. Suddenly, she was larger and more powerful than the dragon. She shot a steady stream of hot lava back at the dragon.

Bob absorbed all the lava flowing at him. He grew and grew until he was a billion times bigger. She couldn’t even see his face, he was that tall. Bob swooshed his tail and poked Lava Girl with one of his ginormous spikes. That poofed Lava Girl into a tiny Lava Girl.

That didn’t bother Lava Girl one bit. Now she could sneak past him. The first thing she saw in the cave was an enormous, red egg. Lava Girl decided to burn it in the hope that it would shrink. She shot a tiny stream of lava at it. Instead of shrinking, the egg made a loud cracking noise and split apart.

A baby dragon appeared, a perfect little copy of his uncle: dark red with spikes. He blew fire back at Lava Girl. Thank goodness, thought Lava Girl as she grew a little bigger from the flame. But then the baby dragon pounced on Lava Girl. He threw her into a small river going through the cave.

“Oh no,” Lava-girl cried as she shrunk down to the size of a fish egg. What was she going to do now? she thought as the river swept her away…

The “Cliffhanger” End.
