The dragon guarded her cave. Zaborg, the monster, watched. He’d heard of this dragon, but only a little bit. He did not know his name. He wondered what she guarded.
She was as big as a tower that had fallen down. She was a deep, dark, black dragon with a hint of green. She was breathing plasma, which was dark forest green. Her eyes were a sparkly purple, and she had curved horns that jutted from her neck. Her big wings were currently folded at her sides.
The dragon had hard scales. She had spikes down her back, but they were more rounded than sharp. Each was as big as a cat.
Zarbog breathed in deeply. Ahh! That dragon smelled good–fresh and clean like Bob the Builder socks.
The dragon roared and as she breathed out plasma, it made a bubbling sound–not loud, but distinct.
Bubble…bubble…bubble.
Far far away there were other roars and bubbles.
Zarbog got the idea that there were many other dragons somewhere, close enough to hear, but far enough away not to be able to see.
Suddenly, the dragon took a large bite out of a dead fox.
Yumm, though Zarbog. He thought that the fox must taste like overcooked cabbage, and that was a bitter, yummy taste sensation.
Zarbog decided it was time to disover what that dragon guarded. He was not afraid of any old dragon, no matter how big, because he was a brilliant monster who could easily outwit her. First he would grab his pickaxe and sneak around to the back of the cave. Then, he would cut through and sneak in.
He put though to action. Quickly he made a hole in the backside of the cave. Once it was large enough he crawled through.
Ahh! he yelled.
There was a gaping hole in the ground, which he tumbled into.
He fell and fell. He landed quite hard. When he managed to stand, he realized he was missing an arm.
Oh darn, another arm lost. At least he still had 99 left. And the missing one would grow back soon.
There were a number of tunnels down there, so he decided to explore. After a few minutes, he came upon two tunnels both filled with water. Low walls kept the water from flooding the cave. There was a boat. He decided to take the boat and explore the right tunnel.
Soon he was perspiring heavily, and alll 99 palm were wet. He had never been in a boat before. He wasn’t sure he liked it.
After a while, he saw a shiny gold toilet at a station. He took a quick break. Then he was back in the boat.
He looked up and saw something shiny hanging above him. With his longest arm–which was very long–he reached up and pluckedthe shiny object from the sky.
It was a large shiny golden stone. It looked very precious.
Zarbog didn’t care about shiny things. He tossed the stone into the golden toilet and flushed it. A moment later he realize that the stone was what the dragon guarded.
“I’m an idiot,” he said. If she guarded it, it must be worth a fortune. He dived into the golden toilet after the stone.
Zarbog tumbled over and over in the rushing water and zipped through a series of pipes to a lake. He was quite sure that the lake was outside of the cave. He couldn’t check through because he was struggling to stay afloat.
In fact, he was drowning. Water kept rushing into his mouth. He saw the precious stone bobbing in the distance. He didn’t think he would survive to get it. But then with a loud whoosh something picked him up out of the water.
It was the dragon!! He was saved. But what would the dragon do?
The dragon flew high in the air, but suddenly he slipped out of her clutches.
Oh-no! He was falling!!! Straight into the lake. He glimpsed the precious stone.
Would he survive???
The “Cliffhanger” End.
