The dragon guarded his cave. Rainbow Pigs, the alien watched. He wondered what the dragon guarded.
The dragon was so big that Rainbow Pigs almost couldn’t see the cave behind him. The dragon was a midnight blue color. He looked extraordinary powerful, and he breathed hot blue flame. He had enormous wings and scary claws. Rainbow Pigs thought the dragon would be rough and bumpy if he touched him. The dragon’s tail was so spiky and large and it whipped around with so much force that Rainbow Pigs imagined it could smash a building with ease.
The dragon smelled disgusting, like sour and spicy jalapenos. The dragon was roaring like a lion, and it was obvious to Rainbow Pigs that he was roaring at him. The dragon looked very angry.
Just then Rainbow Pigs saw something wander out of the cave. Because the dragon was so huge, it was hard to make out what the creature was. Then he realized that it was a Pegasus. There was a pile of carrots next to the cave, and the Pegasus chomped on them. Rainbow Pigs had never eaten carrots before, but he thought he would like them. Carrots reminded him of candy corn–sweet, yummy candy corn, his favorite treat.
Rainbow Pigs saw that the dragon hadn’t yet noticed the Pegasus, probably because he was munching on some creature and distracted. But then the dragon heard something and looked over his shoulder. When he saw the Pegasus eating the carrots, he grew even angrier than before. He roared even louder, so loud that Rainbow Pigs thought he might be mad about the carrots. Maybe they were dragon’s and off-limits.
When the dragon roared, the Pegasus flinched and rushed back inside the cave! Poor Pegasus! Rainbow Pigs wanted to help him escape the monster dragon. He decided to yell so that the dragon would be distracted again. He yelled really, really, loud. It seemed to work. The dragon turned away from the cave and flew at Rainbow Pigs.
Rainbow Pigs decided it was time to turn invisible. The dragon stopped midair, turning one way and then the other. He could not find the alien who remained invisible.
Rainbow Pigs was so happy when he saw the Pegasus rush out of the cave and take off for the skies. The Pegasus was a pretty snow white with white feathery wings.
Suddenly the dragon stopped acting confused. It was as if he could see Rainbow Pigs. But that impossible. Wasn’t it?
Rainbow Pigs looked down and realized that his magic had failed. He was visible! Oh no! Then the Pegasus saw him, and he flew past the dragon and dived for Rainbow Pigs. He grabbed him using his teeth and flew away from the dragon.
A mad chase ensued. The dragon being so powerful kept gaining on the swift and brave Pegasus. Suddenly, the Pegasus had a burst of speed, and he left the dragon behind. Rainbow Pigs looked over his shoulder and saw a huge fireball racing toward them. It had to be coming from the dragon. Fortunately, the alien had eyes on the back of his head. He exchanged glances with the Pegasus, and they combined their magic to repel the fireball.
But the dragon kept pelting them with fireballs. So many that their magic failed them! A fireball hit them and they tumbled into a vast lake. The dragon dived after them into the water. Rainbow Pigs didn’t know what to do, but he had to try. He pushed the Pegasus out of the dragon’s way and the Pegasus managed to fly out of the water. Meanwhile, Rainbow Pig closed his eyes and prayed that his magic would work. He went invisible and the dragon zoomed past him. For now he and the Pegasus were safe. But who knew for how long?
