The Alien and Waffles, the Pluto-Raised Fly

By 5th Grade Students at Cadwallader Elementary

The alien stood by its spaceship. Waffles, the Pluto-raised fly, watched. Waffles wondered why the alien was there.

Waffles was about a foot tall and this alien was at least five times as big. The alien was sky blue whereas Waffles was red. The alien had light brown scales. It covered itself with black. Waffles thought it might be something called a tuxedo. He knew that humanoids wore weird stuff like that.

The alien had way more limbs than Waffles. He counted 10. But he beat the alien when it came to eyes. Unlike his four, the alien only had one. It had a tail! It was light brown like the scales.

The ship was huge, at least as big as his favorite apartment-the one that always had a lot of food lying around. It was made out of aluminum. It had a ton of windows and lots of cool things beyond. Even from a distance he made out an awesome arcade game. Waffles thought the alien would feel both rough and soft at the same time. He would love to touch it with all six legs and his antenna.

He liked the alien’s smell. It was like a crayon odor- a combination of wax and color. He smelled something else. Something animal-like. It came from the ship. He searched through the windows. There was another creature. It also had one eye and it had antenna, but Waffles thought it looked more like an alien pet than an alien. It seemed to be begging the way dogs did on Pluto.

The alien was whistling. It was a pleasant sound. Suddenly, the alien pet went crazy with excitement. Waffles thought it was because of the whistle. The alien dog-like creature ran around in a circle and started a high-pitched bark. Then it ran for the ship door. Waffles watched through the ship’s windows.

The alien dog stopped and started to eat some aqua gooey substance. Ick! Waffles thought it smelled like rotten fish and he only liked rotten red meat. He thought it would taste moldy and he wasn’t into mold. He also thought his feet could get stuck in the goo. Yuck. He hated when that happened.

Waffles buzzed up to the ship to get a closer look. When he touched it, it started to change colors, moving through the rainbow and then going mostly invisible. Cool, thought Waffles.

The alien strode off. Waffles followed. The alien started to run. Waffles followed. The alien found a rainbow. It pulled out a little device. It turned on the device and the device started to suck up the rainbow. Waffles, who had a PhD in physics, realized that this was a mini black hole. Oh no! That was very dangerous for Pluto. It could suck Pluto right up.

He tried to stop the alien, but the alien totally ignored him. He got in its face and suddenly got sucked into the black hole! Ohhhh Nooo! Waffles used every ounce of strength he had to combat the huge force of the black hole. Slowly, he flew back toward the device. It was really hard but finally he crawled out and rested on the mini black hole device, panting. He fell asleep but it wasn’t a peaceful sleep. Even in sleep he could feel himself twitching.

Someone was making a high- pitched noise. Wait, it was the alien dog barking. Waffles finally woke up. He realized that the alien and the alien dog were walking back to their ship and he was still on the alien’s device. Waffles decided to attempt to communicate with the alien.

He said, “What do you need?”

Instead of answering, the alien ran and as soon as it had him in the ship, it caged him. Oh no thought Waffles. He was flynapped!

He yelled, “What is going on?”

The alien said, “I thought you were going to do something to me.”

“I would never hurt you,” Waffles said.

The alien said, “Oh, in that case, let us be friends.” It let Waffles go. They did high limbs together.

“Lets have a party,” the alien said.

“Yay,” said Waffles, “a pizza dance party.”

They danced and ate pizza all night long.

The End.
