Ceaser’s Salad

The dragon guarded his cave. Fenway, the green iguana, watched. She knew that the dragon’s name was Ceazer but that was all she knew. She had never seen him before. She wondered what the dragon guarded.

Ceazer was huge, at least 100 times bigger than Fenway. He was a very dark red, which she didn’t like much. She preferred her elegant gray with green stripes. The dragon had two devil horns on the top of his head and very sharp spikes running down his back. Each of Ceazer’s teeth were bigger than Fenway, and they looked very sharp. The dragon was covered with hard scales. They looked as if they would be as hard as rocks. Fenway liked her softer skin, even her spikes didn’t look as sharp as the dragon’s.

The dragon stank of fire. Fenway didn’t like that because it made her worry that he might be able to burn her. She crouched as low as she could behind the bush. The dragon was stomping and it sounded like drums. The dragon stomped so hard that the cave shook, causing a loud avalanche of rocks and dirt.

In front of the dragon was a giant bowl. Inside was a huge salad. As the dragon munched on the salad, Fenway’s stomach growled. It looked so yummy and sweet.  It would taste just like marshmallows.

Fenway crawled a little distance away from the bush, so that her skin would turn the color of the ground. Once her skin made her practically invisible, she scurried into the cave. It was very dark, but her eyes quickly adjusted. The first thing she saw was a huge stack of money. Wow! Cool! She liked money. She could buy a whole tub of salad. She thought there might even a million dollars in the stack.

]She slowly walked over to the stack, but suddenly she flew the air. She was caught in a net. The dragon had trapped her. Oh no!

Ten praying mantises hopped over. They dragged the net down and then carried it into a far chamber in the cave. It had a door. They left her there and locked the door behind them.

Fenway got to work saving herself. With her sharp teeth, she cut her way out of the cage. She found a hole in the room, and she squeezed through into another room. There she saw a huge pile of golds bricks! Oooh! Shiny. But she thought it would be easier to carry the money, so she snuck back to the main room.

When she got there she saw a dude. He was taller than the kids she usually hung with – probably one of those adults – and he carried a round ball.  But even though he was taller than some people, she thought he looked short, and she didn’t think he was a friend.

She saw the pile of money, but she also saw many traps on the ground. She grabbed small rocks and threw them at the traps, setting them off one by one. Once they all were set off, she snuck toward the money. When she got there she realized, to her dismay, that it was fake money. Darn!

She snuck back to the room with the gold. Fortunately there was a backpack in the corner. Fenway grabbed it and loaded it with gold. She snuck past the dude with the ball and the ten praying mantises and even the dragon outside.

But then, Ceazer saw her. She ran. Suddenly a flying pig appeared and sprayed the backpack with pixie dust. It started to rise in the air like a hot air balloon, and Fenway rose with it. But the dragon followed. With his very sharp and big teeth, he latched onto the backpack.

Uh oh! thought Fenway, as the dragon tugged. What would she do now?
