My name is Sophie. I am fifteen years old. I have a mission. I’m going to go back in time to stop Hitler.
I know you think I am crazy. You are worried I’ll change everything. But this I must do. My great-grandmother was killed by the Nazis. She is extraordinary. She was a time traveler like me. And she visited me in her future, my present, and made me swear that I would save her.
I cannot tell anyone except my cousin Gerald. The rest of the world would try to stop me. I ‘m going to do my best not to change history. My plan is to extract my grandmother from the concentration camp in Poland. Not only will I save her, but I must also save all my relatives from their horrible doom.
My time travel secret is that I am the keeper of fairy dust, and it allows me to travel backward and forward in time, but there isn’t much left.
Gerald and I leave at dawn. We take our fairy dust, our swords, GPS with an Australian accent, and a miniature tank that will expand to full size when needed.
In a blink, we arrive in Poland. The first thing we see is a very large cow. We have landed in the middle of a farm. Chickens are “bac-bac-backing” at us.
We quickly duck behind a haystack because there are Nazis at the farm. Three Nazis are dragging the farmer away. They are speaking in Polish. At least that is what I think they are speaking.
I pull out my little translation gadget from my backpack and turn it on. Immediately it displays words in English. In case you were wondering, I am an Aussie. My parents emigrated from Australia a long time ago.
The Nazis clearly state that they are taking the farmer to the Warsaw concentration camp. That is where my great-grandmother is being held. We will follow and save her.
“Follow me,” I whisper to Gerald.
Instead of following he rips off a very realistic mask of my cousin. Underneath is none other than Hitler himself.
I am so in trouble….
