The Alien and the Talking Coyote

The alien stood by her spaceship.  Bobbina, the talking coyote watched.  This alien was in Bobbina’s forest.  Why?

The alien looked just like a monstrous ant—double Bobbina’s size, standing upright on her back legs.  She was a light purple.  Bobbina had never seen an ant like this.  The spaceship looked a lot like one of those station wagons that haunted the forest; only it didn’t have all the windows.  There was a lot of metal.  Also, it appeared to be snapped in two pieces.  Bobbina didn’t think that was a feature of the ship.  She thought it had crashed.

While Bobbina was scared, she also thought the alien ant looked as soft as a chinchilla.  Her purple fur looked so lovely.  The spaceship looked as if it would be very smooth.

Bobbina sniffed the air.  The alien had a very unique scent.  On the one hand, she smelled divine—like an animal that had recently bathed—all lovely wet fur.  However, she also had the aroma of a rotting carcass, too far gone to eat.

The alien ant was howling at the top of her lungs, a high-pitched screech that was super annoying.  Not the beautiful howl of a coyote.  Bobbina thought the alien was scared, lost and alone in this strange forest.  It was also possible that the alien was scared by the thunderstorm in progress.  Thunder crashed, lightning flashed.  Bobbina didn’t like it one bit.  She didn’t mind the rain, but she was afraid of trees bursting into flame.

Suddenly the alien ant ran over to the side of the spaceship and picked up a snail, popping it into her mouth and crunching.  Oh, man, Bobbina was jealous.  She loved snails. They tasted just like bananas—yummy!

Just then Bobbina heard a whirring in the sky.  She looked up.  From the corner of her eye, she saw the alien look up too and drop her snail in horror.  There was another spaceship, fighting its way through the thunderstorm.  Sometimes its flight was smooth, but then it would hit a bump in the air.  The ship was like a translucent teardrop and from it came a bright beam of light searching the forest.  Then a lightning bolt struck the ship and something plummeted through the sky.

As the coyote watched, it grew bigger.  She saw that it was a new kind of creature, something like a bee only rainbow-colored.  It was struggling to fly.  As it neared, the coyote saw that it was about her own size.  Who was this?

Bizarrely, just at that moment, a peacock fought its way through the storm and caught the rainbow alien bee, saving it from certain doom.  The peacock landed beside the station-wagony spaceship.

If there was one thing Bobbina hated, it was a peacock!  She lunged, teeth barred and attacked.  The peacock dropped his alien bee-friend and fought back with her talons.  Suddenly the coyote was pushed to the ground.  By the alien ant? The ant had tackled her.

Bobbina felt a searing pain in her mouth.  The alien ant had wrenched one of her teeth out!  Gosh, that hurt.  The coyote looked up and saw the alien ant strike the bee with Bobbina’s tooth.

That was the moment when the frog jumped out, director’s hat on his head, and yelled, “Cut.”

All of the actors jumped up from their spots and started screaming and dancing.

The coyote yelled, “Woo-Hoo!”

The real ant crawled out from inside the monster ant costume and so did the real bee.  Now that they were no longer acting or dancing, they just stood around.  Bobbina felt very awkward.  She didn’t really know any of the other actors.

Suddenly from out of the sky, a huge spaceship appeared.  It looked just like the fake station wagon ship.

“Oh no!!” the coyote howled…

The “Cliffhanger” End.
