The Knight and the Dragon

The dragon guarded her cave.  Carter, the knight, watched.  Carter had never seen this dragon before.  He wondered what she guarded.

She was the largest dragon he’d ever seen.  She looked as if she was as big as space.  Her cave was ginormous too.  Carter couldn’t see where it ended.  The dragon was a light green with purple wings.  Carter thought she might be wearing a crown. He caught a glimpse of gold. She also wore gold on her feet. He wasn’t sure what that was, but he thought it might be for protection.  She was covered in icicles– all over her body, but there also was blood rushing through her body, heating it up.  It looked as if the icicles were slowly melting.

Carter thought she would feel slimy and wet, but not cold because the icicles were melting.  The dragon stank of rotten eggs — no not just rotten eggs, but rotten pizza with rotten eggs on top. Ewwwww. Disgusting. So gross.

Suddenly, a garden gnome walked by.  It was Emily, his enemy.  She was eating nametags.  Ick. They had to taste like tree dust.  So gross.  Everything was gross.

The dragon was so annoying.  She kept chattering and chattering like all the animals in the world.  The noise was really loud and obnoxious.

Carter decided to try to be nice, even to his enemy, Emily… “Hey Emily!  Do you want to work together to get into the cave and see what the dragon is guarding?”

“No way,” said Emily.  “I’m going in first, and I’m going to steal whatever is there.”

“Then, we must fight,” said Carter.

Quick as a wink, Carter used his magical weapons to build a wall between the cave and Emily.  “Take that,” he said.  And he snuck past the dragon who was too large to see him, into the cave.  The cave was lit with many torches.  But the only thing he saw was a whole bunch of doors leading to more cavern chambers.  He wasn’t sure which path to take.

But then, the garden gnome ran into the cave!  “How dare you build a wall to stop me! You cannot stop me!  Now that I’m here! I will stop you!”

“In your dreams,” yelled Carter.

He decided that there must be a very secret room below.  He pulled out the hottest sauce in the world and poured it in a circle at his feet.  The ground burned and collapsed beneath him.  He fell into a deep, dark cavern.  He pulled his sword out.  It glowed.  He was able to see the cavern.  He slipped as he stood up.  It was very tight quarters.  Everywhere was ice cream.  The ground, the walls. There was  a pyramid in the room that also was ice cream.

A glob fell from the roof of the room and landed on Carter’s face.  He tasted the ice cream. It was super gross — the worst ice cream ever.  It tasted like salty bubblegum with spinach on top.  Ewwww….ewwwww…..ewww….

Spitting out ice cream, he walked over to the pyramid.  He punched it.  It opened!

He couldn’t see anything inside.  It was so dark in the pyramid that even his sword didn’t help.  He reached in and touched a glob of cold, disgusting ice cream.  Ick.

Suddenly, a glowing unicorn leaped into the pyramid.  Now Carter could see.

There was a scroll in the ice cream.  Hmmmm, thought Carter. A scroll? It must be magical.  Why else would a dragon guard it?  Carter thought a magical scroll would be very cool.

He grabbed the scroll. It held a magical spell that he read out loud.

With a boom and a crack, Carter was teleported into a new world.  A digital world!  He was quite sure it was a game.  He was all by himself, except for a few groundhogs.  He saw a sign that read:  You must win all 35 levels to get to the end where the scroll will take you home!  Ready Player — Go!

The “Cliffhanger” End.
