The Dragon and the Sloth

The dragon guarded her cave. Groot the sloth watched. What was the dragon guarding? Groot had met this dragon before. He knew that her name was Dillan.

The dragon was huge–30 feet long. And she was bright red. She had purple wings and was currently breathing blue fire. Groot had never touched her before, but he imagined that she would feel bumpy and slimy.

Dillan the dragon smelled like dirty socks. Groot didn’t like the smell. It was too rancid and strong.

Dillan was currently screeching. Who knew why? She always seemed to be screeching.

Suddenly, she stopped screeching and began to eat something. It took Groot a moment to identify what she ate, but then he understood. She was eating a sloth! Groot never lost his cool, but inside he screamed! Aaaaaahhhhhhh!

Groot was very scared, but also curious. He was determined to get into that cave. He threw a stick way far, using his three toes. He hoped the dragon would fetch it, giving him time to sneak in. The dragon did run after the stick.

Groot slowly crept toward the cave. He only made it halfway to the cave before the dragon returned.

“Oh ho!” yelled the dragon. “Another yummy sloth. I believe it’s Groot.”

Uh-oh, thought Groot. Luckily, he had one special power. Groot could go invisible. So he did.

The dragon screeched and screeched, but Groot ignored her. He kept creeping till he made it into the cave. There he found a glorious mound of gold!

He pulled out his invisibility bag and filled it with gold. Once it was full, he began to creep back out of the cave. He was a little worried. His ability to be invisible only lasted so long. Would he escape before it wore off?

He snuck out of the cave. The screeching dragon switched to a roar. When Groot looked down, he saw that he was visible again. Oops.

He crawled as quickly as he ever had up a nearby tree. Right before the dragon caught him with her talons, he threw himself into the canopy and disappeared into the leaves.

The dragon screeched her anger, but she couldn’t find him. Being in the canopy was another sort of invisibility. He was saved!

The End.
