The dragon guarded her cave. The hamburgerling, named Bobby Joe, watched. He wondered what was in the cave.
The dragon seemed unusual to Bobby Joe. She had no wings and only one leg. She was very dark red and as tall as a mountain. He had the impression that she would feel rough to the touch. So different from a hamburgerling who always had such soft skin.
The dragon smelled delicious. Like a stinky sock that had touched a rotten egg for a week under a very messy bed. All he wanted was to eat her.
The dragon lumbered into the cave. Bobby Joe followed. He peeked inside. Turned out, there was an actual messy bed, and the dragon was trying to clean up. But with one leg she was having a tough time. She had to use her mouth to drag sheets around. It was a noisy process with lots of shuffling and gagging and hopping.
Behind the bed, a mound of dirty socks rose almost to the ceiling.
Ohhhhhh, thought Bobby Joe. What a treasure. I could eat them all up.
He pulled out his biggest hamburger and snuck it right behind the dragon. Then he quickly hid in the corner. He hoped the dragon would be distracted by the hamburger long enough for him to nab a pile of dirty socks. And it worked.
The dragon sniffed the air, turned and grabbed the hamburger with her mouth and snuck off to chew it down. Bobby Joe ran for the socks, piled them in his arms and ran out of the cave. As soon as he could, he started gobbling them. Soon all the dirty socks were gone.
He snuck back into the cave. This time, he saw two treasures, the dirty socks- of course- and a huge, ginormous pile of diamonds. He also saw the dragon who was no longer eating the hamburger. The dragon’s eyes grew huge when she saw Bobby Joe and they seemed to sparkle with joy. She hopped at him and grabbed him with her mouth. Uh-oh thought Bobby Joe. But then she groaned and spit him out. That was when he noticed her huge belly. She must be too full to eat him. Hooray, he thought. Then she looked at the dirty sock pile and her expression became very angry. Uh-oh, he thought. She had seen the missing socks. He ran for his life. All the way home. Whew, he thought when he finally was safe. But then he saw them. A giant army of ants ready for him.
